Chapter 2 Who Is responsIble agaIn?

Summary

In this chapter, we reviewed more about who exactly is responsible again

for security. The default reference is AWS’s Shared Responsibility Model,

but it can be a little ambiguous because depending on the resources you

are using, there is an “it depends” factor. Microsoft Azure adopts a different

approach in displaying the shared responsibilities for IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS,

which can be helpful when first learning to understand how different

services have different responsibilities.

With the changing technologies also comes the need to change

security strategies. The CIA has been a long-established foundation for

maintaining a secure network, and a new DIE model can address changing

technologies and capabilities.

The responsibility is ultimately shared between AWS and the

customer. AWS goes to great lengths to ensure that they are managing

the security of its infrastructure across the world. AWS has also designed

the Well- Architected Framework. This provides customers a framework

they can refer to so that customers can build a stronger and more secure

architecture.
